Birth Doula serving the Comox Valley, on Vancouver Island.
My name is Brooke
I grew up in Merville, BC and after exploring the world’s many pockets for many years, returned to the Comox Valley in 2024 with my incredible partner, Jordy.
We have two cats who add a lot of whimsy to our days out here in the trees. Our home is filled with Jordy plucking guitar strings and songwriting woven in giggles. You will usually find me tinkering on creative projects, researching about birth or thrifting for treasures made from hands and earth.
Why I’m called to Birthwork
I care deeply about supporting families. It is my sacred duty to be curious, to hear, to nourish and to empower families as they move through their path into parenthood.
As a woman\person with a uterus, navigating contemporary information about my body has been perplexing and that naturally led to learning more about traditional and holistic care. Researching led me to Birthwork, which I feel has been a series of ‘remembering’ my body and those before me.
Becoming a Birth Doula has been a natural transition from being a child carer for families. I spent many years holding space in intimate moments with parents to reclaim their empowerment. The witnessing of quiet moments, the bond and the braiding between child and parent has inspired me to celebrate them each and every day.
I am trained under Doula School Canada and mentored under Judi Calhoun, a DONA doula for 27 years and Evan at Big Cat Birth & Botanicals.
Birth Package
I am located in Merville and can support families for Home Births within the Comox Valley, the North Island Hospital Comox Valley and the North Island Hospital Campbell River
How do I support my clients?
Birtherled care is a big part of my support style. I believe that pregnancy prepares you for birth and birth prepares you for parenthood. This means that I, as your doula, do not have a hidden agenda for your birth, I simply want you to feel empowered and supported to have a birth where you are the central decision maker.
Whether you are interested in having a natural birth, water birth or using medicine interventions offered by our hospital, I am there to support you (and your partner) with evidence based practices to ensure that you are making informed decisions with confidence for your family. I practice within the Trauma Informed Care model.
Birth requires a lot of evidence based research, using your intelligence to navigate the information. One of my favourite tools to dig deeper into your intuition as parents is Birth Art, a way to let go of all the facts and information, and reach a point of intuition. A skill that is helpful all throughout parenthood.
My clients feel supported before, during and after birth by somebody who is by their side, supporting their decisions and not adding to the noise.
